A Good Deed
Ian G.

I have learned many things in my short lifetime. In this past Christmas I was able to participate in a special family tradition. Every year my grandpa uses his money to help those in need. He will buy presents and we will leave them on the doorstep of their house on Christmas Eve. This year we helped the Smiths. They are family friends and have known us a long time. They had just lost their house a couple months earlier and were staying in a guesthouse at the time. Each night they would catch at least four to five mice. They were definitely in need of some help.

On Christmas Eve my grandpa asked me if I wanted to go do something nice for someone. At the time I didn’t know what was going on or whom we were going to help. So not knowing what was in store I took the chance to do something nice. So we grabbed a huge bag of presents and headed out to the car. We had to wear dark clothing and sweatshirt with a hood. So I grabbed my coat and headed out the door. We piled into the Cadillac like clowns in the circus with the presents and drove off.

As we drove into the wooded area where they lived we began to go over what was going to happen. “You and Brittney are going to sneak up to the door and lay the presents down,” my grandpa said, “ Then you make a break for the car and we driven off.” As we drove up to the gate blocking of the house we parked and killed the lights. Then Brittney and I slipped out of the car and into the night. We swiftly hopped over the fence and hid in the trees. “Okay we’re clear.” Whispered Brittney. Then we silently crept up to the door where we gently laid the presents. Brittney knocked and as fast as a cheetah we were down the hill and in the car again.

We weren’t sure they had gotten the presents so we circled around. This time we disappeared completely into the trees like shadows in the mist. They hadn’t gotten the presents so we put them down on a different door and we knocked again this time to the avail that they got the presents. As we drove home that night I thought about how blessed I was to have a warm bed and a good house to sleep in. As I drove home I had a certain piece of mind that I’m unfortunately unable to explain. All I know is that I have never felt that way until that experience. The next Sunday the Smiths told everyone at church about the mysterious Secret Santa. Of course no one knows exactly what happened that night except me of course.

Over the span of my life I have learned some important lessons. Like this one was to always help those who are in need. I also hope to be able to learn more things and to have more experiences like this one. I’m glad I took the chance to go help someone. Even when I didn’t even know what was going to happen and how it would feel to do that kind act. I have never felt so happy in my life. I’m so glad to have had this experience.
